ENTRY.DOC
May 29, 1992
1. If a ? or = has been entered in any of the following name fields in
WSCONFIG:
- Server Name
- Service Name
- User Name
- Group LU
- Pool and/or dedicated LU name
the user will be prompted for the name each time the workstation loads.
An attempt to enter an invalid character at that point will result in a
"beep".
The User Name may instead be entered in WSCONFIG. This name must be a
valid NetWare name that is defined on the NetWare server.
2. If an asterisk was entered in WSCONFIG:
- In the Server Name field, the workstation will search all the
NetWare servers and attach to the first server that can be accessed by
the specified user name and has the specified service.
- In the Service Name field, the workstation will take any available
NetWare SAA service that is loaded on the communications server you
are connected to. If you specified a dedicated or pooled LU name, the
workstation will take the first NetWare for SAA service that has the
specified LU.
The Service Name is the name of the NetWare for SAA service you
are accessing, which is typically the name of your Host
connection. The Service Name corresponds to the name of the
service profile assigned by the system administrator when the SAA
Service was loaded.
3. In previous releases of 3270 LAN Workstation, the dedicated LU name in
WSCONFIG could be as long as 47 characters. With this release, the length
of the dedicated LU name is restricted to no more than 8 characters.
A limit of 8 characters conforms to the maximum length of the LU name in
CSCON. 3270 LAN Workstation for DOS and NetWare for SAA are now consistent
in this regard.
4. The characters that are invalid for WSLAN and WSCONFIG (User Name
field, Server Name field, and Service Name field) will now be the same as
for NetWare and NetWare Communication Services:
All control characters are invalid
The following printable characters are not valid:
- space character
- / slash
- \ backslash
- : colon
- ; semi colon
- , comma
- " " quotation marks
- < less than sign
- > greater than sign
- . period (If the period is the first character.
- [ open bracket
- ] close bracket
- + plus sign
Characters with special meanings when used in User Name field, Server
Name field, or Service Name field of WSCONFIG. An equal sign (=)
carries the same meaning as a question mark.
- * asterisk
- ? question mark
- = equal sign
5. When creating or entering passwords, avoid using all control
characters. All the other characters listed above are valid characters,
including the space character.
6. LU Pool Name and Dedicated LU Name
There are two restrictions:
- All control characters are invalid.
- The first character must be an alphabetic character; that is, only
letters A to Z are valid.
After the first character, LU pool names and dedicated LU names can include
any of the other characters listed above (except control characters).
